Cory Donald Reid, Plover, WI, 04/21/2000

Lost my son that day, almost lost all three. My fiance at that time was driving, he was drunk, lost control and rolled the car, all three of the boys were thrown from the vehicle, Cory was the first one out and died instantly, the other boys were in critical condition for weeks, the hospital was put on a death watch, but, by the grace of god they lived. My now ex fiance is serving 20 years in prison, with no early release, because Wisconsin has the truth in sentencing law.

 Wisconsin is NOT an ideal place for OWI punishment

I am most truly sorry for your loss and very glad to see that SOME amount of justice was found through your loss. However, this case is RARE as the usual punishment for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle is 12 months. Act 28 has essentially eviscerated Truth-in-Sentencing in Wisconsin by releasing those, these repeat offenders, back into society to offend again after they have completed a few programs and 75-85% of the sentence. Wisconsin is FAR from a modle state for OWI laws.

i AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS i KNOW HOW YOU FEEL WHEN I READ YOUR STORY i CRYED TO BREAK MY HEART i WAS HIT BY A DRUNK DRIVER IN 2005 AND MY 5 YR OLD SON BRIAN WAS KILL MY 9 YR OLD rICHARD MADE IT OUT BOTH MY HUSBED AND I ARE LEFT HANDYCAP UNABLE TO WORK ANOTHER DAY OF OUR LIVES WE RELIVE THAT DAY LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY ... THE PAIN NEEVR SEEMS TO EASE OFF .... NO MATTER HOW STRONG OF A FRONT YOU SEEM TO PUT ON IT'S ALWAYS THEIR IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND AND IN YOUR HEART . WE LIVE IN CANADA AND I AM ASHAMED OF IT SAD BUT TRUE THE MAN WHO KILLED OUR SON WAS DRUNK BEYOND WORDS THIS WAS HIS 5 TIME GETTING CAUGHT AND BECAUSE HE KILLED MY SON THIS TIME HE LOST HIS LICNECES HE WAS GIVEN 12 YEARS IN JAIL AND WALKED OUT BEFOR I WAS RELEASED OUT OF THE HOSPITAL 18 MONTHS LATER THE CANADIAN GOVERMENT IS HELPING HIM GET HIS LIFE BACK TOGETHER AND OUR CAME ABRUPTLY TO AND END MY HEART THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GOES OUT TO YOU AND YOUR SONS AND LOVE ONES ALL THE BEST TO YOU STAY STRONG AND GOD BLESS YOUR FRIEND ALWAYS TANYA BISHOP .... I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I will keep you in my prayers. I live in Texas and the laws here are just starting to change. It is a comfort to know your son's killer is in jail for a good amount of his life. He deserves more, unfortunately, life in prison isn't an option. The man who killed my loved one had 5 dwi's. His longest jail sentence was 5 months, I hope more states will follow suit with Wisconsin.

First I'd like to say how sorry I am for your loss...I wish Connecticut had drunk driving laws like Wisconsin....Nothing will ever bring your son back, but, at least the person responsible did get away with it, as so many of them do...God Bless...Keep yourself well...
