Best Friends Forever
by: Yohanna

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks just reading this. I am close to your age and just lost my best friends two months ago because a drunk driver hit us when we were going home (19 year old Senhit Mehari and 17 year old Amutha Subramaniam). I know exactly how you feel because everyday I feel the same way. It is more than just difficult to "live" without my best friend, it is almost painful. Everyday I think about both of my best friends and wonder why this had to happen. I hope you can understand that although we have lost our best friends, we are not alone, other people have lost their best friends because of drunk drivers too. I am writing you this because for me, it helps to have someone talk to you, whom actually knows the pain you are going through. One day, we will be able to smile and laugh again without feeling pain or depression, I still havent seen this day, but one day we will. God Bless you and yours <3

I have a similar story.

My best friend was killed by a drunk driver on 9/03/90. Like you, he and I were best friends, from 2nd grade until his passing. He was like a brother to me! Nearly 20 years have passed and few days go by that he is not in my thoughts. Within those 20 years has been a great deal of anger and grief. The driver who killed him was also killed at the seen. So there is no explanation of what or why. There was no revenge or restitution. No matter what your faith or belief system. Forgiveness has been a powerful tool to deal with the grief. Seek closure to the grieving process. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Whatever you do to deal, acceptance should be your goal. Be happy for the time that you had to share together! The saying "everything happens for a reason" is a tough sell in your situation. Sometimes it is best to accept it for the truth of the matter and in the end your health and happiness! God speed. Be well!

I'm sure it's not easy to lose a loved one, although they are gone all we can do is remember the good times, and look back on good memories, and know that God will follow us as He always ahs...Certainly I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts, just know that God is divine strength in human weaknesses...!

feeling your pain
by: Heather

Leona - I am so sorry that you have had to suffer a loss like this. I lost my 19 year old cousin in 2002 and still to this day, I do not understand why. Her story is titled May 18, 2002 if you would like to read it.
Just know that you are not alone. Your friend is still with you, even if you cant see his physical being. He will be with you in everything that you do, including turning 18. Something that I did that helped me after my cousin was killed was to turn all of the negativity into something positive. There are so many memorial sites online that I have included her on. If her story can help one person than I can be grateful for that.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
