 YEAH BAD THINGS DO HAPPEN

I WANT TO START OFF BY SAYIN SORRY YOUR MOM IS SETTIN IN JAIL. AND I WANT TO SAY ITS REALLY NOT FAIR THAT MY BROTHER AND HIS FRIENDS ARE IN THE GROUND BECAUSE OF A DRUNK DRIVER. THEY LEFT BEHIND KIDS THAT WERE UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND NOW THEY HAVE TO GROW UP WITHOUT THEM BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE MADE A BAD CHOICE. IS IT FAIR TO US OUR BOYS DIED AT THE HANDS OF ANOTHER? THE MAN THAT KILLED THEM ONLY GOT 9 YEARS WE ARE THE ONES WHO GOT THE LIFE SENTENC EWITHOUT THEM! YOU NEED TO THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS YOU WILL GET TO SEE HER AGAIN, BECAUSE WE WILL NEVER GET TO SEE THEM AGAIN OR HEAR THEIR VOICE AGAIN. THEIR CHILDREN WILL HAVE TO GROW UP WITH ONLY MEMORIES OF WHAT WE TELL THEM. THEY WERE GOOD MEN AND WE MISS THEM EVERY DAY.

 Sympathizing with you...

Being 14 years old, there is still so much you do not understand, Kizzi. I feel for your loss because at 14 you need your mom in your life, but I do not understand why you said the child killed in this crash was a monster.
My cousins story is on here. I would like you to take the time to read it. It is titled May 18, 2002. Maybe after reading her story, you will be able to better understand why so many people are angry at people who make the choice to drink and drive. My cousin was 19 years old and had a full life ahead of her. She was my aunts youngest daughter. Everything was taken away in less than a minute.
As a grown woman, I would hope that your mom knew the difference between right and wrong. She made the choice to drive while drunk, and therefore must deal with the consequences. Never forget that a life was lost because of the decision your mom made. I believe that she did not mean for this to happen. Most people that drive drunk, do not think that anything awful will happen. But again, when a choice is made like this, there are consequences.
I only hope that by what you are going through, you will be able to make good decisions as you grow up. I also hope that there is someone in your life that you are able to talk to and express your feelings to.

 There are no monsters

Hello Kizzi, I was touched by the obvious pain in your story. My son Loren died on January 4th 2009 from a terrible car accident on New Years' Eve. (you can read his story here title, "My Son Was the Drunk Driver on New Years Eve".Yes, he was the drunk driver. We are fortunate in that he did not seriously injure anyone else in the accident, but never the less, we lost our son. There are no monsters Kizzi, only individuals that use bad judgment. I would venture a guess that the majority of people that have lost loved ones to a drunk driver and post on this site, have themselves been guilty of getting behind the wheel impaired. I know that over these past 9 months, when I have relayed the story of our son's death to people, I sometimes see for a brief moment on their face that he deserved it. It is painful, and hurtful. The fact that your mother and my son were the drunk drivers, does not take away from the fact that they are people we love, care about and cherish. People do not have the benefit of knowing the drunk drivers outside of that title. Realize that much of what is posted on this site is posted by people trying to deal with a tremendous loss in their life. The anger at having their loved one killed through no fault of their own is an incredible outrage to try and comprehend, and provokes (rightfully so) extreme anger and causes them to lash out. It is understandable and is not personally aimed directly at your mother or my son. In the months immediately following my son's death, I too was extremely angry at my child for putting himself in a situation that ended his life. I am so deeply sorry that your family and the family of the victim have to deal with such a tragedy. Be kind to yourself, and supportive of your mother.

 Bad things happen to good people

Kizzi,

I'm sorry about what happened to your Mom. You have to understand, as an adult, you make choices and not always the right ones....My husband was killed by a drunk driver, that fled the country. That is why people that right on this website are mad and angry....Because someone didn't take responsiblity for what they did. Your Mom, is obviously taking responsility for what happened, and no one would consider her a monster for owning what she did. The difference between you and most people on this website, is, you will see your Mother again thankfully, I will never see my husband again. You will have holidays and birthdays...Most of us on this website will never have that again with our loved ones. I also work with someone that was the driver in fatel accident, the family of the victim fought to keep his prison time short...They were best friends and both were at fault, unfortunately, one died. Not everyone thinks the drivers are monsters. I try to understand everyone's circumstance, maybe you should try to do the same...
