poem: ADVICE FROM THE WISE

I have lost a dear family friend to drunk driving, and I am sorry for everyone else who has had the same happen, to anyone they know. I wrote a poem about drunk drving, called "advice from the wise".

MAY THE WISE START SHARING

OF PLACES SO FAR

FROM TODAY'S CARELESS WORLD

AND CARELESS DRIVERS OF CARS.

LET THEM STATE THAT THE SUN GOES DOWN -

IN THIS PLACE SO FAR FROM HERE -

SO MUCH MORE OFTEN

THAN ANYONE HEARS.

LISTEN TO THE STORIES

AND ADVICE OF THE WISE

SO YOU MAY KEEP

YOUR WORTHY PRIZE.

THAT PRIZE, MY DARLING, IS LIFE:

SO PRECIOUS AND DEAR;

AS ARE THE MANY

LIVES LOST EACH YEAR

FROM DRUNK DRIVING

IN THIS CARELESS WORLD

WHERE ADVICE IS GIVEN

BUT SO RARELY HEARD.

LISTEN TO THE WISE

AS THEY CALL YOU NEAR,

AND MAKE YOU BEND DOWN

SO THEY'RE CLOSE TO YOUR EAR.

LISTEN AS THEY SAY THIS:

"DON'T DRINK THEN DRIVE,

OR DRIVE AND DRINK;

IT LOWERS YOUR CHANCES AT STAYING ALIVE

AND LESSENS THE ABILITY TO THINK

OF THE MANY ON THAT SAME ROAD

THAT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU DID DRNK.

AND WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND WISE

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SAY "THANK GOD I'M ALIVE."

"THE GUILT WON'T BE WITH YOU

FOR TAKING A LIFE

BECAUSE OF WHAT

YOU DRANK THAT NIGHT."

SO, MY DEAR FRIENDS,

LISTEN AS THIS I STATE:

DON'T DRINK THEN DRIVE,

DRIVE AND DRINK,

OR ANYTHING WITH

THOSE TWO WORDS LINKED.
