(Waukesha Wisconsin)

On St. Patricks day 2007 at 10:13am my mom, sister and sisters boyfriend were on there way back from breakfast From Sullivan Wisconsin and were hit by a drunk driver with an alcohol count of .39. My sister was 24 years old and it was 1 month and 3 days befor her birthday. She was killed instantly. MY sisters boyfriend was 25 and he was a helicopter mechanic, and he also died instantly. My mom was half ejected out of the drivers seat, she was severely injured. She was flown flight for life to Fredhort Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa Wisconsin. She suffered 18 fractured ribs, fractured skull, numerous facial fractures, her left ear was ripped off, she had a fractured pelvis, fractured right hip, fractured left heal, fractured left wrist, and a lot of road rash. She was in ICU for 2 weeks. She was in the hospital for a total of 3 weeks and they werent sure when she got there that she would even survive a week. She still is going through a lot of recovery surgery's and is alive. I am very greatful that I didnt lose my mom. I was the only blood related family member to sign papers stating that the two who passed were that of my sister and her boyfriend. I miss them more than ever and my life has changed for life. My sister had just made the deans list for her college with making up her own blueprints plans. I am 17 years old and it is very hard to not only lose a sister but your best friend, secert saver, and most of all your role model. I cannot believe that the drunk driver was over 4 times the legal limit.

Amelia,
Amanda and Justin were both amazing people!!!I think about them all every day! Its been almost 8 years since they left us. Justin was a brother to me, although not blood he lived with my family and I as a teen until he left for the Marines. I miss him so much and I am so sorry for the loss of your sister Amanda as well. I have been trying to look at it in the most positive way possible and cant help but think how lucky they were to die together, they loved each other so very much and I like to believe that only the good die young. Because of this sad event happening I always spend the holidays sober and remain as a designated driver for my friends and family. If you ever want to contact me My name is DeLaina mrs.lucero@live.com

I don't know if you will see this or if you still check these comments but paul was my brother and I know the pain you went through. I am very sorry for your loss and I hope after the time that has passed your mom is okay. This is something that should never have happened and I still think about them everyday. Just remember they are always going to be with you.

Remembering Justin and Amanda
by: Melissa

After being given an old picture today that my sister found of Justin I began thinking about all of the great times we had. Justin was such an amazing person. There was not one day that went by that he was not smiling or making someone laugh. We were all so proud and excited when he finally came home from the Marines. I remember the weekend we came home. Jake, Drake, Robert, and I drove to San Diego to pack his stuff and bring him home. It was an unforgettable weekend. After a few months home Justin met Amanda. I had never seen him so happy with someone. She really brought out the best in him. I was excited as well because her and I had gotten along really well. We were both huge Packer fans. I can honestly say that since the accident everyone who knew them changed. A piece of my heart died that day with them, a piece I will never get back. RIP Justin and Amanda

I remember that day..

I was driving home to Sullivan from Oconomowoc when I came to the accident scene.. it was shortly after the accident had happened. My heart dropped when I saw the accident scene.. I am soooo sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine being in your shoes..I too have a sis who is my mentor and best friend and I can't imagine how hard it must have been not only to lose her but to watch your mom in such pain and misery and all of the therapy that she must have had to go through, as well as your sisters boyfriend. You are a very strong woman and reading your story has inspired me. Why is it that we dont feel the impact or realize how serious this is until something bad happens to someone we love?
