Rauna Filippi, March 16, 2012
The driver involved in a fatal accident on San Pablo Avenue March 24, 2012, was "impaired" by alcohol and has been arrested, a California Highway Patrol officer said on March 25, 2012.
The accident killed Vallejo resident Rauna Filippi, 53 of Vallejo, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner's office.
Rauna had been a passenger in a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer that hit a traffic signal pole at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Tara Hills Drive, just outside Pinole city limits. While there was steady rain around the time of the collision, driver impairment appeared to be involved.
"It does look like alcohol was a contributing factor," in the crash, CHP said.
The accident happened at about 7 p.m. March 24, 2012.
Rauna was the mother of 4 adult children, and recently widowed. She had three new grandbabies to enjoy. Her brothers and one surviving sister are scattered throughout the U.S. and will never get to see her again.
A Memorial service has been set for May 12, 2012, pending the graduation of one of her son's from a Missouri College.
Please, don't drink and drive, innocent passengers, other innocent people in other cars, and their families have their lives torn apart.
