Drunk Driving is criminal and stupid. Growing up my dad would show me sites of "accidents" he'd been called to where someone had crashed, killed or been killed as a direct result of drunk drving. These in fact were not accidents they are just as deliberate as murder by gun or knife.

That said, your courage and compassion are both powerful tools. I firmly believe that by telling your story you can protect lives. You can't go back on what you've done but you can cause great change by continuing to tell your story.

I wrote a comment to you in May to comment on your bravery. I just wanted to ask you if you have thought about maybe going from school to school and teaching teens the importance of safety and not to drink and drive? I'm not sure that everyone would heed your advice but getting through to at least one teen could make a big difference. If you don't do it for yourself, do it in memory of your friends. Maybe talking about it would free a little guilt.

Thank You
by: Ken

Hi Ashley,
Five years ago I was arrested in Washington state for DUI. I blew a .193. I was "only drinking beer" when I ran off the road. Then the Troopers showed up. I am at the end of a five year period of deferred prosecution. I have not had a drink since then. You are courageous to tell your story. It, and other stories have helped me to stay sober. God Bless you.

Although your choice to drink and drive was a bad one, I think it took a lot of courage to put yourself out there and admit what you did. Especially because it's a story that could make a lot of people mad. I too, hope you learned your lesson. But more drunk drivers do need to take responsibility for their actions and the justice systems need to make stiffer penalties. Thank you for sharing your stories and I hope your friends are at peace and I hope that somewhere out there they have forgiven you.

give your pain away.
by: Jake B.

I can feel the pain in your words. I want to tell you something, my mother was killed by a drunk driver and if anything good can come from a bad situation it is redemption.

Do me a favor, listen to that voice deep in your heart and seek out the love of God and accept his gift of eternal life.

You know what its like to stand in a courtroom and be sentanced to prison. Imagine standing before a Holy God and about to recieve your sentance when someone comes into the court room and takes your place, and serves the sentance for you. That is what Jesus has already done for you, just accept that gift.

Imagine the honor you could bring to your life and Family by becoming a gleaming example of redemption and victory for God!

taking responsibility
by: Heather

I am glad to hear that you are taking responsibility for your actions. You are definitely right - one year is nothing! I can only hope that you have learned from this tragic mistake, and never make the choice to drink and drive again.
